McEwen Kitchen REMODEL
A major kitchen update removing decades of peeling wallpaper, dated design and materials. Installing new lighting solutions, updated cabinet details, and custom stone countertops.
THE STORY
Laura and James contacted us when their previous contractor folded up their business, leaving them without an explanation or a solution. They wanted to update their kitchen to reflect their personalities and needs. Laura is a registered dietician and James is a geologist so improving both the functionality and the materials were important criteria for these homeowners. Their kitchen was last updated decades ago which meant that they were stuck living with peeling wallpaper, poor lighting, and dark wood cabinets. They wanted help creating a more open solution to connect to the dining area, better lighting to work by, and materials and colors that reflected their interests.
OUR SOLUTION
We listened to Laura and James in order to hear what was bothering them and what they felt were important changes to be made in their space. Once we understood their needs we went with them to Pacific Crest Countertops to view the options for authentic stone counters appealing to the Jim’s background and we worked with Laura to design a lighting program that brought sufficient task light to the work surfaces, incorporated local custom hand blown glass pendant shades to give the space updated style and personality, and we installed high efficiency LED lighting in the ceiling as well as above and below the cabinets which not only help with ambient lighting, removing shadows from the space, but also should reduce their power consumption on a monthly basis.
